Aging is a natural process. In that sense, it can be included as certainties of life along with death. A number of people are averse to getting old.
They dread not the aging process in itself. But the main problemfor many are an assortment of ills that accompany aging and being considered unable to do many things which they have been doing comfortably before. While no one can prevent the process of aging, there are some foods that slow down aging. They put mild brakes on aging, which allows people to age gracefully.
- Vegetables- You might have been a meat and fish junkie all your life. But it would be better to resort to vegetarianism as you grow old. Vegetables such as carrots, okra, turnips and broccoli are rich in fiber and vitamins. Fibrous foods containing vitamins and minerals considerably slow down aging. Remember to keep the spice content low while preparing veggies. Also remember not to boil the vegetables too much.
- Grains- Grains do have reputation as a storehouse of carbohydrates and calories. But whole grains are excellent foods that slow down aging. Wheat, barley, oats, and rice are excellent food choices to keep yourself young. One caveat should be added here. One has to keep the food quantities to a minimum. Excess quantities of these food items can increase the calories and carbohydrate content in your body.
- Fish- If you aren’t comfortable turning vegetarian, here is good news for you. Fish that contains omega-3 fatty acids is one of the best foods to slow down aging. It improves not just physical conditions but also helps to rejuvenate the mind and brain. Omega-3 fatty acids reduce the decaying of cells, which can happens quite regularly when a person grows old. Most fish contain omega-3 fatty acids. Salmon and tune are reservoirs of these fatty acids
- Nuts- Nuts are another food that slow down aging. Just like grains, cashew nuts, almonds and walnuts also contain carbohydrates. They are a treasure house of proteins and minerals. These are good for developing immunity and strengthening bones.
