The emergence of Maryam Salam as the next face of Black Opal Nigeria, allowed her the opportunity to star in the next Black Opal Nigeria campaign alongside Powede Lawrence (MBGN Tourism 2013) and LFDW model, Nnenna Okoli.
The Beautybox team caught up with her and here is what we learnt about the ebony beauty;
1. Describe yourself?
My full name is Maryam Adesola Salam, also known as Fashionbydaisy. I grew up in France then moved to the UK and currently back in Nigeria for a while. I am a fashion blogger and content creator. I am God fearing, adventurous and nice. I love anything related to fashion and blogging. More of the reasons why I founded a blogger agency in Nigeria called The Blogger Point.
2. How did you hear about the Black Opal beauty Campaign?
A very good friend of mine tagged me on the post with caption: “you should enter for this”
3. How did you feel once you heard your name being announced as the winner?
I wasn’t expecting it at all. I was shocked.
4. How has growing up as an ebony skinned girl shaped your personality?
Growing up, I felt a bit too dark than “normal” considering the fact that I was the darkest in the family. But, I guess my family most especially my mum always assured me I am beautiful the way I am and thought me to accept myself for who I am. They say ‘saying is believing’. Very quickly, I started building this confidence in myself and seeing myself as “beauty” regardless my shade.
5. What was it like shooting the campaign for Black Opal?
Fun. I loved every moment. The makeup artists, stylists and photographers. Everyone stayed professional and positive
6. What is your beauty routine?
Major routine is going makeup free every weekend (only when I have a big event I need to attend). Weekends are free day for my face to breath.
Then, on a regular day, after a full day with makeup, wipe off with facial wipes and wash off.
Then I have a weekly face scrub routine.
Major tip: I say away from most face products with artificial perfume in it.
7. You have been given such a huge platform, any exciting plans lined up from you?
Looking forward to inspire other “very dark skinned ” girls as me and of course be a good brand ambassador for black Opal in every way possible. I mean It’s one of the top products for dark skin girls.
