A Beginners Guide to Makeup

Starting up a makeup bag can be very difficult because there are so many products to choose from: high end, drugstore brands, liquid liner, pencil liner, gel liner, bronzers, concealers, highlighters, illuminators, contour colors, foundations, primers, and the list is endless.

This list will be useful to the ladies who are trying to build their makeup bags or the ladies who use minimal makeup and are trying to expand their horizons. It is also useful because having a lot of makeup can be very overwhelming.

You may get confused when applying makeup with regard to what product/color to use. It is a great way to keep your makeup products in check and avoid purchasing too many products and those you do not need.

There are quite a number of foundations to choose from. We have Cream-to-Powder, Powder and Liquid Foundations and not to mention tinted bronzers that double as a foundation etc. But we recommend liquid foundation for beginners because it is easier to blend with the appropriate blending brush or sponge and lasts longer.

Powder is very essential, especially if you decide to use the liquid foundation. Powder is used to set your foundation and helps to prevent your makeup from “melting off”. A Matte finish powder – if you use a good brand – can be used with or without the foundation especially on the days you want a more natural look.

Eyebrow tools:

They say eyebrows define the face the most even if it’s the only make up on. Eyebrows are a big part of makeup that can be sometimes frustrating (from personal experience) but, with constant practice, becomes easier. There is a variety of products you can use for your brows – gel liner, pencil liner or powder & an angled brush but the easiest way for a beginner is to use a pencil liner and a spoolie (what people usually call “mascara wand”). To make drawing your eyebrows easier, go to a saloon and shape them by waxing, threading or an eyebrow blade.

Recommendations for lipsticks for beginners are: one nude/brownish lipstick and one red/orange lipstick (depending on which one suits your skin tone better). There are a million and one shades of both red and nude lipsticks to choose from so make sure you try them out before you purchase them.

A Mascara is great for adding that extra glam to your look without having to bother with false eyelashes! Different mascara brushes have different uses so you can purchase whichever suits your needs best.
