Drink a cup of warm ginger tea the first thing in the morning to deal with cough and cold. Add a teaspoon of finely chopped ginger to a cup of boiling water, a bag of tea and teaspoon of honey for a soothing effect on the throat. Ginger has anti-inflammatory compounds which not only promote salivation but also aid in mucus secretion, thereby easing the symptoms of cough.
Turmeric is a wonder spice and is packed with anti-inflammatory compounds, curcumin and volatile oils, which provides effective relief against cough, cold and sore throat.
3. Black pepper:
Known to be rich in antibacterial properties, black pepper not only adds a warm and spicy flavour to the food but also loosens phlegm and also eases a stuffy nose. Hence, sprinkle black pepper on hot soup or add a pinch of black pepper to a teaspoonful of honey and have it on an empty stomach to get rid of cough and cold.
4. Garlic: Be it severe cough and cold or sore throat, all you need to do is chew a clove of garlic. The spice contains allicin, an anti-bacterial compound which helps in treating cough and cold naturally. Alternatively, you can enrich your stew and soup with garlic.
Cinnamon is antiviral and antibacterial in nature, which not only prevents but also aids in the treatment of viral infections. Add powdered cinnamon to a cup of boiling water and a pinch of pepper powder and honey. Drink this at least twice a day for effective relief.
